While the first book was primarily the personal story of James and Victoria and how they affected the Empire as well as how the Empire affected them, the second book is a fuller, more wide-ranging study of the growth of the Empire itself.

 

It is the story of many people, of Victoria's siblings Lee and Gwen, of their father the Emperor and the guilt and grief that gnaw at him every day.

 

It is the story of Moses of Monrovia and Free Africa. It is the story of the nameless spymaster of France and the charming Chancellor of Prussia. It is the story of the villains of the first book, the agents of the CNSS.

This second book is written from the seeds sewn in the first book. Is the earth they fall upon ready for them?
